Margaret Key Crawford is a graduate of Murray State University where she studied art under Mary Eid McCoy Hall and Emily Walfson. After graduation during World War II she was one of the first women chemist at Union Carbide in Louisville, Kentucky. When the war ended she returned to Murray, Kentucky and married Donald Crawford. For the next 31 years she taught elementary education in the Calloway County School System. Since there were no art teachers she integrated art with other subjects. After her retirement in 1978 she became a member of the Murray Art Guild. With encouragement from fellow members Emily Walfson and Richard Jackson she focused on watercolor with flowers, old barns, and buildings her primary subjects: with an emphasis on rhythm, line and color. Margaret Key Crawford’s’ paintings are in homes and business throughout the United States.
