Fiber Artist

Barb Fagerlin developed an interest in working with fibers while in college. After graduating, she continued to expand her skills in the fiber arts through classes and workshops. Eventually, Barb was drawn to quilts and quiltmaking. Collecting and studying antique quilts gave her an appreciation for the craftsmanship involved, and she began to design her own quilts. Barb now enjoys designing and making contemporary quilts and wall hangings, as well as quilts with an antique look. Her contemporary quilts are often made from hand dyed fabrics and embellished with machine quilting using a variety of threads, including variegated and metallics. Incorporating digital images in her quilt designs, as well as hand painting areas of the quilt, are some of the techniques Barb uses to create her unique fiberart. When not creating larger pieces, Barb designs and stitches both contemporary and traditional miniatures, which she places on barnwood, or in wood frames which have been handmade by her husband. Now retired from the field of nursing, Barb works in her studio daily. She recently began a series of quilts interpreting scenes and objects of nature in fiber form. Barb resides in Woodford County, Kentucky, with her husband Bob, and her dog Daisy. |
