Since moving to Kentucky with my family in 1992, I've fallen in love with the beauty and history of my adopted state and the miles and miles of beautiful countryside. I've learned about the peaceful nature and ingenuity of the Shakers from Pleasant Hill and South Union, KY. I've explored old pioneer settlements and gained an understanding and appreciation for those who settled this land. I love the old barns and bridges that dot the countryside and I've found a new fascination with Kentucky horse farms. Through my photography, I'm attempting to preserve the heritage of Kentucky and the south. I am basically a self-taught photographer, with the help of the occasional workshop, lots of reading and practice, and a supportive camera club. My husband plays a huge part in the production of my work. He prints my images, cuts my mats, assembles my frames, sets up and takes down our booth at shows and just makes the whole process so much better! I am a juried member of the Kentucky Arts Council: Visual Arts at the Market program, the Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Collection and Platinum 10 projects and the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. I am a Kentucky Arts Council/Kentucky Historical Society Community Scholar and a Kentucky Peer Advisory Network consultant.. I am currently involved in several projects documenting southern heritage: an independent work with tobacco farmers and two projects through the Kentucky Arts Council/Kentucky Historical Society and Kentucky Oral History Commission: The Appalachian Heritage of Quilting in Montgomery County and Funerary Customs in Harlan County, Kentucky. |
