Photography

After working for seventeen years as a school psychologist, I decided that what I really wanted to do when I grew up was hike in the woods and take pictures. In 1994 I founded Wild Walks Photography and today I sell photos and photo souvenirs in fifteen states. That’s the business end of it. My passion remains black and white photography shot on film in natural light. I develop all of my film and produce all of my prints the “old-fashioned” way by chemical processing in the darkroom. All fine-tuning such as tinting, toning, and “special effects” are accomplished through traditional techniques (though sometime it’s just infrared film!) I realize that digital wizardry has its place (and believe me, I do that too) but as people often say when they view my work – “These are real photographs.” I take particular pride in portraying the gentle beauty and time-honored culture of Kentucky. My work is for sale in many Kentucky State Parks and tourist venues throughout the commonwealth. I have been a member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen since 2001 and currently serve on its Board of Trustees. Photographer Minor White remarked, “No matter how slow the film, Spirit always stands still for the photographer it has chosen.” At times I sense that I am this photographer and feel blessed indeed. From watching a mountain sunrise bring the world back to life to the magic of seeing an image emerge from a blank sheet of paper, it is an adventure of awe and wonder. I hope viewers experience some of this magic in my photos. |
