August 2019 Artist-of-the-Month: Amanda Bridges

August 2019 Artist-of-the-Month is Amanda Bridges! ​Amanda Bridges makes one-of-a-kind clay art and drawings with a focus in line, color, pattern, and detail. Inspired by nature, textiles, and more, she uses a variety of techniques in wheel-throwing, slab-building, and altered work including elements of sgrafitto, stamping, and printing onto the clay surface. Amanda Bridges says: "My work is a marriage between my love of clay and drawing. I create pottery that is both fun to look at as well as functional. My ultimate objective is for my pottery to increase the joy of the user beyond simply its visual or tactile aspect and become fully integrated into the ritual of sharing food, conversation and life. Whitney Withington - Artist of the Month for March 2019

Find out more about Whitney Withington, KY Guild Artist of the Month, March 2019! Doing business as Sacred Woman Text, Whitney Withington has been creating unique and personal hand-made journals since the 1990s. In 2019, Whitney received a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women to create artist books presenting the lives of African-American women and their families in Appalachia. A collection of her hand-made journals are available at the Kentucky Guild Visual Arts Galleries in Old Town Berea.

Bethany Butters, Our New Artist in Residence!

  The Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen is proud to present Bethany Butters of Steam-Bee Pottery as our new Artist in Residence! Bethany joined the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen in February 2017, making her one of our newest members! She describes the inspiration for her work as, “an integration between both the industrial history and the vibrant nature in Kentucky by reflecting the textures and colors found in old rivers, industrial parks, coal mines, and the vibrant shades of the hillsides.
