"I believe art is an elemental part of us as human beings. A person without art in their life is like a universe without starlight, a carpenter without a tool box, a garden without flowers, a fish without water. It gives us skills, balance, beauty, wisdom, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and more to make our world a better place. You have to be able to envision of imagine something great or different before you can make it happen. You have to witness, discover, observe, experience, and explore the richness of your intimate world and the vastness of the universe to find visions that no one else has seen, thoughts that no one else has heard, and connect and share all...

DeeDee lives in her hometown of Lexington, KY where she telecommutes as a project manager for an architecture firm in Atlanta, GA. She comes from a family that has always loved the tradition of coloring eggs at Easter and spent many afternoons with her grandmother experimenting with unique ways to color eggs. In 2000, she discovered the art of making traditional Ukrainian pysanky and was hooked. It is an art form she is passing down to her own family. A pysanky (pehSANkeh) egg ornament is made using a traditional wax resist and egg dye method, similar to the wax crayon you may remember coming in the store bought egg dye kit at Easter! The blown out eggshells used are...

"I am a self taught folk artist raised in the Appalachian Mountains and inspired by my father, a carpenter and a builder, who I watched as a child and worked alongside as I became an adult. Art, through wood, is my passion, my hobby, and my therapy. However, I still work daily as a conductor on the NS Railroad.   I enjoy creating by using a variety of woods and mixing varieties in many of my pieces. Extensive sanding, to perfect the wood’s natural glow, helps work out the impurities in both the wood and the stress within myself. I use a wide array of finishes including: painted, distressed, and satin polyurethane. In addition, I utilize numerous waxes with hand-rubbed or buffed...

"Water color is my medium of choice. It allows an artist to capture the beauty of nature by permitting colors to flow and mix on the surface of the paper. The white of the paper also sparkles through the paints, adding a vibrancy that is unique to watercolors. A love of the outdoors is evident in my representational and semi-abstract paintings. Inspirations are sparked from divergent shapes in nature. In addition to watercolor, some paintings are enhanced by the incorporation of collage and/or pen and ink. Handmade or texturized tissue paper is torn/cut into shapes and adhered to provide interest.  Recently, I have begun to experiment with alcohol inks. They are a fantastic way to allow creativity to bloom. Special effects...
